Conductor  Dennis Russell Davies
Soloist  Laura van der Heijden, cello

Janacek  Taras Bulba
Martinu  Cello Concerto No. 1
Dvorak  Symphony No. 9

We are delighted to welcome audiences back to G Live after a far too long an absence, for a special Concert featuring one of the Czech Republic’s top orchestras, the Brno Philharmonic, who will  launch the 2021/22 Guildford International Concert Season.

The orchestra was founded by Leos Janacek in 1870s and so of course we start the concert off with Janacek’s dramatic Taras Bulba.  This will be followed by Martinu’s Cello Concerto, performed by the exceptionally talented Laura van der Heijden who won BBC Young Musician Award in 2012.

In the second half the orchestra’s Music Director, the renowned American conductor Dennis Russell Davies, will conduct the greatest of all Czech symphonies, Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9 from the New World.
