The Four Choirs
G Live, Guildford
Sat 24 November, 7.30pm
|SHOW INFORMATION||PRE-SHOW DINING|
Verdi’s Messa di Requiem, one of the most moving pieces of music ever witten.The concert features the voices of four highly regarded soloists Jane Streeton, Stephanie Lewis, Ben Thapa and Robert Anderson with the English Festival Orchestra under the baton of local conductor Ian Assersohn.
But perhaps the most exciting aspect of the performance is that it brings together no less than four choirs. Two of them, Leatherhead Choral Society and Concordia Singers, are trained by Ian, and they are joined by Oxshott and Horsley choral societies under their musical director, Valerie Beynon, making a combined choir of well around 220 voices.
'I have loved this piece since I first heard it as a schoolboy. It’s such direct, thrilling music that it never fails to move me,” says Ian. “I’m very excited about this concert, as I know who all the participants are. It promises to be a very special evening.'
This event was made possible by a donation from The Humphrey Richardson Taylor Charitable Trust and is additionally supported by Guildford Borough Council.
